So, this 1993 version of The Marriage of Figaro is a solid capture of the opera, but it doesn’t quite rise to the level of others like Bohm or Pappano—those have more compelling female leads, honestly. What really stands out here is Bryn Terfel as Figaro; he brings such a unique energy to the role that it’s hard to compare. His performance alone is worth the price of admission. John Eliot Gardiner’s conducting adds a nice touch, too, giving it a lively pace that keeps the mood light and engaging. The atmosphere feels intimate, but it’s not always the most polished production. Still, it’s a good watch for anyone interested in different interpretations of this classic.
