The Masked Man is an interesting entry in the action genre, albeit not without its rough edges. The world it builds is pretty gritty, almost suffocating in its chaos, which really reflects the fear and uncertainty in the city after the bombing. Cathal, the young officer, becomes this reluctant hero breaking away from the law he used to uphold, which adds some nice tension to the narrative. The pacing has its moments where it drags a bit, but the practical effects used in the action sequences give it a raw, visceral feel. Performances are decent, particularly Cathal's struggle with morality and duty. It’s distinct because it doesn’t shy away from the moral ambiguity of vigilantism—definitely a film that sticks with you in an unsettling way.
