The Medallion is this quirky blend of action, comedy, and fantasy that just doesn’t take itself too seriously. Jackie Chan plays the lead, and you can tell he’s having fun with the character’s goofy charm, especially when he gets those superhuman powers. The pacing is a bit erratic, but that’s part of its charm—there’s lots of slapstick and elaborate fights that are classic Chan. The practical effects here are surprisingly good for early 2000s, and the whole vibe feels like a playful homage to buddy cop films. It’s got that Hong Kong flair mixed with Western comedy, which is kind of rare. Not the most polished film, but it has its moments that make it stand out in Chan’s filmography.
