The Mummy's Curse (1944) is an interesting blend of fantasy and horror, directed by Leslie Goodwins. It has this eerie, almost dreamlike atmosphere that seeps through the Louisiana bayous, a perfect backdrop for the tale of Kharis and his lost love, Princess Ananka. The pacing is steady, allowing the tension to build as we follow Amina Mansouri's plight. I find the practical effects to be quite charming, especially for the era; Kharis's mummy wrappings have a certain texture that modern CGI just can't replicate. The performances, particularly from the leads, feel genuine and help ground the supernatural elements. It's distinctly different from the more action-oriented mummy flicks that came later, leaning more into a tragic love story with horror undertones.
