The Musketeer (2001) is an interesting take on the classic Dumas story. Directed by Peter Hyams, it mixes swashbuckling action with a bit of romance, but not in the usual way. The pacing is a bit uneven; it has some thrilling sword fights that feel like they were choreographed with an eye for spectacle. I mean, there’s a lot of practical effects and wire work that give it a unique vibe. The cast delivers, with Stephen Rea and Catherine Deneuve adding depth, even if the young D'Artagnan played by Justin Chambers feels a bit green at times. It's not your typical musketeer flick, but it has a certain charm and visually appealing moments that stand out.
