The New Mutants offers a darker, more atmospheric take on the superhero genre. It’s less about the spectacle and more about the psychological struggles of these young mutants. The pacing is a bit uneven, but it really leans into horror elements, which you don't often get in traditional superhero flicks. The facility they’re trapped in feels claustrophobic and adds to the tension. Practical effects are a standout, especially in some of the transformation scenes which feel raw and gritty. The performances from the young cast are solid; you can see their characters grappling with trauma and identity, which is pretty engaging. It’s not your typical X-Men film, and that’s what makes it distinctive.
