The Night Watchman is one of those documentaries that gets under your skin. It’s not flashy, but there's a haunting quality to the way it unfolds. You follow El Velador, a night watchman, as he patrols the cemetery where some of Mexico's most notorious drug lords are buried. The atmosphere is heavy, both somber and strangely serene, creating a juxtaposition of life and death, violence and peace. The pacing is deliberate, almost meditative, allowing you to reflect on the madness surrounding these figures without ever showing the violence itself. The performances, particularly by Martin, feel raw and intimate, pulling you into this otherworldly night shift. It's a study of mortality and memory that lingers long after it ends, it's not your typical documentary fare, that’s for sure.
