The Other Me is a quirky little film from 2000 that weaves comedy and fantasy into a coming-of-age story. Directed by Manny Coto, it follows young Will Browning, who faces the threat of military summer school and desperately tries to avoid it by cooking up a science project. The whole cloning angle with the Ocean Pups gives it a rather unique twist; it's kind of messy yet charming in its execution, and the practical effects, while not groundbreaking, add a tangible feel to the fantastical elements. The performances are solid, particularly from the kid actors, who manage to carry the often absurd scenarios with a light-hearted touch. It’s that kind of film that captures the awkwardness of growing up, all wrapped in a fantastical package.
