The Outdoorsman captures an intriguing blend of comedy and introspection. Jason’s naive ambition to live in the wild without any camping experience creates a unique tension throughout the film. The atmosphere is often lighthearted but carries an underlying weight—especially when contrasting Jason’s carefree spirit with Mona’s corporate struggles. Their chemistry is palpable, and you can't help but root for them, even as Jason grapples with his decision. The pacing meanders a bit, but that somewhat mirrors the experience of being out in nature—sometimes slow, sometimes unexpectedly chaotic. David Haskell’s direction brings out some honest moments, and it’s refreshing to see characters wrestling with deeper themes like purpose and connection amidst the humor.
