The Proposal is one of those rom-coms that has a kind of charming chaos to it. Sandra Bullock plays Margaret, this uptight book editor who drags her assistant, Andrew, played by Ryan Reynolds, into a faux marriage. The chemistry between them drives the film, and you can really feel the tension and humor in their interactions. Anne Fletcher does a nice job balancing the comedy with some deeper moments about love and sacrifice. It moves at a pretty good pace, keeping things lively, and the supporting cast adds a lot of flavor – Betty White is especially fun. There's a certain lightness in its style, even with some of the more dramatic themes lurking underneath, which kind of makes it distinctive in the genre.
