The Purchase Price is a fascinating blend of comedy and drama, with Wellman really capturing the era's vibe. You’ve got Joan Gordon as this nightclub singer who escapes a shady gangster, only to find herself in the middle of rural North Dakota. It’s interesting to see her transition from the glitz of the nightclub scene to the stark realities of farm life. The pacing has that vintage rhythm, a bit slow at times, but you get to appreciate the characters and their development. The performances are solid, especially Gordon, who navigates her character's emotional turmoil quite well. And there's this underlying tension when her ex shows up, which adds a nice layer of conflict. Definitely a unique take on love and commitment for its time.
Noteworthy performances by Joan Gordon.Interesting transition from urban to rural settings.Exploration of themes like love and loyalty.
