The Redeemers is an interesting blend of dark comedy and absurdity. You have these cultists, completely out of their depth with door-to-door missionary work, who accidentally find themselves in a pretty wild situation after a botched encounter. The pacing is quite brisk, which actually heightens the chaos of the night as they try to juggle hiding a body and pretending to be part of some live action role-playing gathering. There’s a certain rawness to the performances, which adds to the offbeat atmosphere. The practical effects are surprisingly decent for a low-budget film, giving it that gritty feel. It’s distinctive in how it juxtaposes the mundanity of suburban life with the bizarre world of cults and LARPing.
