The Sapphires is a unique blend of comedy and drama set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War. You’ve got these four Aboriginal sisters who form a singing group, which is already a distinctive angle. What really drew me in was the way it tackles themes of identity, resilience, and the trials of love amidst conflict. The performances are heartfelt – particularly from the leads, who bring a vibrant energy that feels authentic. The pacing has a nice rhythm, moving from lighter moments to more serious undertones without feeling jarring. The atmosphere captures the era well, showcasing a mix of the fun and the sad realities of war. It’s not your typical war film, that's for sure.
