The Secret Kingdom is a curious blend of adventure and fantasy that captures a whimsical yet slightly eerie atmosphere. Set against the backdrop of an old family mansion, the underground realm is inhabited by some wonderfully crafted practical effects that give a tangible feel to the creatures. The pacing has its ups and downs, but the intrigue really ramps up when Peter learns about his fateful role as the one who can wield the Great Clock. Performances are decent, particularly from the lead duo, Verity and Peter, who bring a youthful curiosity that fits well with the film's themes of discovery and destiny. It’s not overly polished, but there’s something charming about its earnestness.
