The Secret of NIMH is one of those films that really captures a unique blend of darkness and charm. Don Bluth's animation style is so distinct, and the way he brings the underworld of mice and rats to life is just fascinating. The pacing is a bit uneven but it adds to the tension, especially when Mrs. Brisby faces off against the dangers of the outside world. Themes of motherhood, sacrifice, and intelligence run deep, and you can't help but feel for her struggle. The practical effects, especially the detailed backgrounds and character designs, really set it apart from other animated films of its time. Plus, the voice performances—especially from Elizabeth Hartman as Brisby—are just phenomenal. It's a bit of a hidden gem in the animation genre, for sure.
