The Skeleton Key is a bit of a hidden gem, merging horror with a strong sense of place in the haunting atmosphere of New Orleans. Iain Softley crafts a slow burn, allowing tension to build as we explore the eerie plantation house. The practical effects, especially in the rituals, stand out against the digital effects we often see today. Kate Hudson delivers a solid performance, grounding the supernatural elements with her character's skepticism and determination. The film's exploration of voodoo and its history adds an intriguing layer, making it more than just your typical ghost story. It’s not without its flaws, but there's a distinct flavor to it that keeps it in my rotation.
