The practical effects, especially the little creatures with the teen's head, are surprisingly inventive given the film's budget. It's a strange mix of gross-out comedy and bizarre fantasy, and the pacing can be all over the place. Performances are a bit uneven, but there's an earnestness that somehow makes it work. It’s definitely distinctive in its approach to themes of sexuality and identity, wrapped in a chaotic package that you don’t often see.
