The Summit: A Chronicle Of Stones to Serenity is an intriguing drama, set in 1907, that follows a group of men on a daring climb of an untouched peak in Japan's last unmapped region. The atmosphere is heavy, almost meditative, as you feel the weight of the mountain and the personal struggles each climber faces. The pacing can be slow, but it works in favor of the film’s themes of perseverance and inner peace. There's a certain rawness to the performances that feels authentic; you can almost feel the chill of the air and the grit of the stones beneath their fingers. Practical effects are used sparingly but add a nice layer of realism. It's distinctive in its exploration of both the physical and spiritual journey, which leaves a lingering impression.
