The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 is a solid entry in the action-thriller genre, with Tony Scott's signature kinetic style enhancing the tension throughout. You really feel the claustrophobia of the subway, and the pacing keeps your heart racing, even if the plot feels a bit stretched at times. Denzel Washington brings a grounded performance as Walter Garber, contrasting nicely with John Travolta's over-the-top villain. The film uses practical effects well, avoiding too much CGI, which is nice to see. The dynamic between Garber and the hijackers keeps things interesting and layered, making it a somewhat unique spin on the hostage scenario. Definitely one to consider if you appreciate strong character work amidst the chaos.
