So, there's this little gem called 'The Thing That Ate the Birds' from 2021. Set against the bleak backdrop of the North Yorkshire Moors, it brings a slow burn of dread, which I really found compelling. Abel, the Head Gamekeeper, is a character that draws you in; his sense of isolation is palpable. The pacing is deliberate, letting the tension build before it finally lets loose. The practical effects used for the creature are quite effective and really add to that raw horror vibe. You can feel the moors' desolation echoing the themes of nature turning against us, which is a refreshing angle. The performances ground the horror in a very human way, making the terror feel all the more real. Definitely has its quirks, but that's part of its charm.
