The Train of Death is an unsettling blend of horror and thriller that keeps you on the edge, really. The atmosphere is thick; you can almost feel the claustrophobia of the moving train. Purnama's character, just getting over cancer, adds a layer of emotional weight that contrasts with the escalating tension as passengers start to disappear. The pacing is expertly done, leaving just enough time for dread to build between each disappearance. Practical effects are noticeably employed, giving a tangible feel to the horror, which is refreshing in today's CGI-heavy landscape. It doesn't shy away from exploring themes of survival and fear, which makes it stand out in a crowded genre.
The Train of Death was released in limited theaters and has since become somewhat elusive on home media, making it a point of interest for collectors. While it hasn't reached a cult status yet, the unique premise and effective practical effects might draw attention. I've seen a few copies floating around, but they aren't overly common, so keep an eye out if you're a genre enthusiast.
