The Triplets of Belleville is quite a visual feast, really. Sylvain Chomet's hand-drawn animation brings a quirky, almost surreal atmosphere that's hard to shake off. The pacing dances along, matching the frenetic energy of the Tour de France, yet there's a melancholic undertone that resonates deeply with the character of Madame Souza. It's interesting how the film eschews dialogue for much of the runtime, relying on expressive animation and sound to convey its story. The Triplets themselvesāthose eccentric sistersāinfuse a sense of nostalgia, echoing the vibrant performance art of an era gone by. Plus, the blend of humor and heartfelt moments makes it stand out in the animation category. It's a unique piece, for sure.
