The Tripper is one of those odd ducks that blends horror and comedy in a way that feels refreshingly off-kilter. Directed by David Arquette, it dives into the twisted antics of a Reagan-loving killer who sets his sights on a group of peace-loving festival-goers. The film has this peculiar vibe, like it's both a satire and a homage to ‘70s slasher flicks. The pacing is a bit uneven, but it adds to that DIY feel it has going on, which fits the whole hippie concert backdrop. Practical effects are used effectively, giving it that gritty charm. Performances range from over-the-top to surprisingly earnest, which keeps it interesting. It’s definitely a mixed bag, but that’s part of its appeal for collectors who appreciate quirky genre mashups.
