The Way Home (2017) blends action, animation, and thriller elements in a rather unique way. The story kicks off with a city on the brink, ravaged by a zombie virus, and follows two unlikely heroes: a young man picked by chance and a seasoned volunteer. The pacing keeps you on your toes, at times frantic, but there are moments of quiet reflection amid the chaos. The practical effects are decent enough, adding a layer of grit to the animated sequences. It does have this interesting commentary on survival and sacrifice, especially through the contrasting perspectives of the two protagonists. Definitely a distinctive take in the zombie genre, even if it doesn’t quite break new ground.
