The Zone of Interest is a chilling exploration of domesticity set against one of history's darkest backdrops. Glazer well-crafted contrasts the mundane life of Rudolf Höss and his wife, Hedwig, with the horror looming just outside their home. The pacing is deliberate, allowing the unsettling atmosphere to seep in as they cultivate their garden, oblivious to the atrocity around them. The performances are hauntingly calm; Sandra Hüller as Hedwig presents a disturbing normalcy that lingers. The film's visuals, sparse yet evocative, convey a stark reality without leaning on excessive effects. This film is distinctive for its refusal to depict violence directly, instead focusing on the banality of evil in a way that's both compelling and discomforting.
