There Goes My Baby is an interesting slice-of-life film that captures the hopes and fears of a graduating class in the summer of 1965. The characters are all grappling with their future, each in their own way, which gives the film a real sense of depth. Mary Beth, the valedictorian, is pushing against the norms of her affluent upbringing. Stick, the surfer, is wrestling with the impending reality of Vietnam. And then there's Calvin, whose experience in the Watts area adds a layer of social commentary. The pacing is reflective, allowing characters to breathe, and the atmosphere feels authentically nostalgic. It’s not flashy, but there’s a certain charm to its earnestness and the performances give it a grounded, relatable feel. Definitely worth a watch for those who appreciate nuanced character studies.
