Three Against the World is one of those films that really pulls you into its gritty ambiance. Set against the backdrop of Hong Kong's underbelly, the pacing feels just right, mixing tense moments with bursts of action. Andy Lau and Rosamund Kwan deliver performances that bring depth to their characters, which you don’t always see in thrillers. The practical effects are solid, with some well-executed fight scenes that don’t rely on too much CGI, making it feel raw and engaging. It has a certain charm that captures the essence of late '80s Hong Kong cinema without trying too hard. Definitely not what you’d expect from a typical action flick, there's a lot more nuance here than meets the eye.
