So, 'Tora-san Plays Daddy' is kind of a gem in the Tora-san series. In this one, Tora-san steps into the role of an accidental father figure, which, as you can imagine, leads to some pretty humorous situations. The film has that quintessential warmth of the series, mixing comedy with a touch of melancholy. You really feel the emotional weight of family and responsibility, especially with the kid who’s just lost his dad. The pacing is relaxed, like most in the series, allowing those moments of reflection to breathe. The performances, especially from Tora-san, are charming and the little boy adds a genuine innocence that contrasts nicely with the adult themes. A nice exploration of surrogate families, with some lovely practical effects throughout the film that enhance the experience.
