Tortoise Wins by a Hare is a charming bit of animation from 1943, directed by Robert Clampett. It features Bugs Bunny in a hilarious twist on the classic fable, where he races Cecil Turtle. The atmosphere is light and playful, with that signature Warner Bros. sense of humor. What’s interesting is how they play with the pacing; it builds tension with Bugs all decked out in an aerodynamic suit, yet he still manages to look like a tortoise. The practical effects in the animation, like the transformation of Bugs, are pretty clever for the time. The voice performances, especially Mel Blanc as Bugs, really bring out the character's slyness and wit. It’s a unique take on competition and expectation.
