Trash Village is one of those raw documentaries that really captures the struggle of facing environmental decay in a small community. It’s the fourth installment in the Zoujiacun series, and it feels like a personal journey for the filmmaker. You feel the weight of the trash—not just physically, but emotionally—as the children and the villagers grapple with their surroundings. The atmosphere is thick with tension, but also a sense of determination. Watching the interactions, you get a real sense of the cultural inertia and the uphill battle against ingrained habits. The pacing is uneven, but that adds to the authenticity; it’s not polished, which somehow enhances its impact. There’s a lot of heart here, mixed with frustration, and it’s definitely distinctive in its approach to environmental issues.
