Under Montana Skies is an interesting blend of Western and musical, a rare combo from 1930. Directed by Richard Thorpe, it gives off a certain charm that's hard to pin down. The pacing feels a bit uneven at times, but there's something compelling about Clay's journey and his efforts to help a musical troupe. The performances have a raw authenticity, and you can see the actors genuinely trying to connect with their roles, especially during the scene where they put on the show. The practical effects are pretty minimal, but they manage to create a compelling backdrop for the heist that follows. The film explores themes of community and trust, making it a decent watch for anyone interested in early sound film experiments in the Western genre.
