Unsound is a rather unique blend of comedy and drama that tackles some heavy themes. The film weaves a story about mental illness, seen through the eyes of a young filmmaker. It’s not just about the turmoil of his mother’s condition, but also about his own journey. The pacing is a bit uneven at times, which I think adds to the tension – you really feel the weight of his struggles. The performances are quite raw, almost documentary-like, which lends an authenticity that’s hard to shake off. There are moments of humor sprinkled throughout that feel genuinely earned, not forced. It’s a film that lingers, making you reflect on family bonds and the challenges of understanding mental health.
