So, this one is quite a rabbit hole. Untitled (11/21) feels like a real experiment in visual and auditory exploration. The animation is largely driven by Max/MSP/Jitter, which creates these feedback loops that just morph over the runtime. It runs for about 20 minutes, and you can feel the pacing is deliberately meandering – it’s not about a story, really, but more about that meditative state it puts you in. Each frame builds on the last, which gives it this organic, almost living quality. You get the sense of randomness too, with parameters shifting unexpectedly. The camcorder re-photographing adds a layer of nostalgia, I think. It’s distinctive for its approach to animation as a process rather than just an end product.
