Valentines Massacre is a gritty, atmospheric horror flick that dives into some pretty dark themes. Detective Valentine, played by Patrick Depula, finds himself in a twisted game when his daughter gets kidnapped. The pacing has a certain urgency, but it takes its time to build tension, which I actually appreciate. John LaRue as the chef is unsettlingly memorable, and the practical effects have a rawness that gives it that indie horror feel. It's not polished, but that adds to its charm, making it distinct from more mainstream horror. It won't be for everyone, but there’s something intriguing about how it explores desperation and obsession.
