Valley of the Rulers is quite an introspective piece, you know? Efim Graboy presents this documentary with such a hauntingly poetic lens. The setting, a nursing home perched on a mountain in Uzice, feels almost surreal. It's a place where time seems to stand still, with the residentsâreferred to as 'clients'âcaught in this limbo between life and what lies beyond. The pacing is deliberate, allowing viewers to absorb the weight of their waiting, the atmosphere thick with a mix of melancholy and acceptance. The performances arenât flashy; instead, they capture the raw essence of lifeâs twilight years. Itâs a meditation on existence, loneliness, and the passage of time, wrapped in a very distinct visual style that feels almost metaphysical.
Interesting use of natural lighting and framing. The film's slow pacing really highlights the emotional gravity.Themes of life, death, and solitude resonate throughout.
