Veredas is an intriguing look at one man's struggle between ambition and obligation, set against the vast, often unforgiving landscapes of rural Brazil. The pacing is contemplative, allowing the viewer to really soak in José's world and his internal conflict. You can feel the weight of his decisions as he navigates the harsh realities of life as a deaf construction worker. The performances are raw and grounded, bringing a sense of authenticity that's sometimes hard to find in modern dramas. The film also does a nice job of using practical effects, enhancing the sense of place without overshadowing the story. Overall, it’s a meditative piece that invites reflection on familial duty and personal dreams.
