Vildängel is an interesting piece from '97 that encapsulates raw emotion and the struggle of youth. The story centers around Jim, who’s sent to a foster home in Luleå, and the atmosphere in that setting is quite haunting yet inspiring. The musical element, led by this anarchistic teacher, adds a unique twist, as it contrasts with the troubled backgrounds of the kids in the class. The pacing can be a bit slow at times, but it gives space for the characters to develop, and boy, do they have stories to tell. The performances from the young cast are honest and, at times, heartbreaking, which really makes the film stand out. It feels very much grounded in reality, showcasing the messiness of life’s challenges.
