So, 'Volcano' is one of those disaster films that rides that weird line between serious and kind of campy. Mick Jackson directs it, and it's interesting to see how he creates tension amid all the chaos. The practical effects are impressive for the time, especially the lava sequences that keep you on edge. Tommy Lee Jones leads the cast with his usual intensity, which sort of grounds the ludicrous premise. The pacing can be uneven, but it builds suspense nicely, especially as the city gets more engulfed. The themes of community and urgency play off each other well, even if the execution sometimes leans into melodrama. Worth a watch if you're into disaster flicks with a bit of grit.
