Vulcan (1997) is an interesting piece that blends family-friendly adventure with a touch of fantasy. The film has this charmingly rough-around-the-edges feel, driven by the bond between a little boy and a pterodactyl named Vulcan, who hatches from a dinosaur egg disturbed by volcanic activity. The pacing is kind of uneven at times, but it gives a sort of nostalgic vibe reminiscent of kids' adventures in the '90s. The practical effects, especially for the creature, are endearing, not perfect, but they have a certain warmth to them. You can really sense the innocence of the characters, and the themes revolve around friendship and bravery, which makes it emblematic of that era of family films. It's unique in its own right, and there’s a certain charm to seeing how they brought Vulcan to life.
