"Wachau" is an intriguing piece, really. Manfred Neuwirth takes a straightforward documentary about grape harvesting and completely flips it on its head. By isolating 15 moments and stretching them out, he creates this almost meditative experience. The symmetry of having four images on the screen, each slowed down, gives it this hypnotic quality. You sort of get lost in the details, which is a nice contrast to the usual fast-paced documentaries. The atmosphere feels both serene and contemplative. It’s a unique exploration of time and perception, inviting viewers to reflect on the act of harvesting in a way that you don’t often see. Not your run-of-the-mill doc, for sure.
