Walker is an interesting piece of work by Alex Cox, blending a gritty historical drama with Western tropes. The film feels raw and unpolished, which adds to its charm. Ed Harris embodies William Walker with a sort of manic determination that's both unsettling and compelling. The pacing is deliberate, almost meditative at times, allowing the viewer to soak in the chaos of 19th century Nicaragua. The practical effects are low-budget but effective, capturing the harsh realities of mercenary life. It doesn’t shy away from the moral ambiguities of imperialism, making it quite interesting. The film has a distinct tone; it’s part absurdist comedy and part tragedy, which is definitely a hallmark of Cox's style.
