Washington Mistress has this gritty, almost voyeuristic quality to it. The tension between Maggie Parker and Michael Reynolds feels palpable, and the way the political backdrop intertwines with their affair gives it a unique edge. The pacing is a bit slow in parts, but that really allows the viewer to soak in the moral ambiguity of their relationship. Performances are solid, especially from the leads, who manage to convey a complex mix of desire and regret. Not much in the way of practical effects, but the real drama is in the dialogue and character interactions. It has that quintessential early '80s TV movie vibe, which kind of makes it stand out in its own way. It's definitely not conventional.
