Wave Breaker is a raw exploration of dreams dashed by life's cruel twists. The film follows Hao-Yang, a passionate young surfer whose love for the ocean is snuffed out by a devastating motor neuron disease inherited from his father. It’s heavy, you feel the weight of his struggles as his body betrays him, piece by piece. The pacing is contemplative, allowing the audience to sit with his emotions, and the atmosphere is almost suffocating at times yet beautifully shot. The performances are intimate; you can see the pain and resilience etched on the actors' faces. What really struck me was its unflinching look at mortality and the fragility of life, making it a somber yet poignant viewing experience.
