Weekend Killer is one of those indie gems from 2011 that's a tough watch but really draws you in. The tone is gritty, with a palpable sense of dread hanging over the whole film. The pacing has its moments of tension, especially during those dark investigation scenes where you feel the weight of Joey's struggle. I mean, you can practically feel his desperation. The performances are pretty solid, especially the leads, who bring a rawness to their roles. The practical effects for the crime scenes are unsettling but add that authenticity you often miss in slicker productions. It’s definitely a film that keeps you on edge and makes you think about the darker sides of humanity, all while you’re piecing together the clues along with the detectives.
