Westender is a curious blend of action, fantasy, and sci-fi set in this peculiar medieval universe. You’ve got Asbrey, once a knight of considerable renown, who's now a bit of a mess, drowning his sorrows in drink. The film has this gritty tone, and you can really feel the weight of his fall from grace. As he sets out to reclaim his lost ring, there's a nice mix of practical effects that feel refreshingly tangible, which you don’t see much in modern flicks. The pacing has a bit of a rhythmic ebb and flow—sometimes it feels like a quest, sometimes like introspection. The performances are earnest, and while the story might not break new ground, it certainly carves its own niche in this genre blend.
Interesting mix of genres with a unique setting.Practical effects stand out amidst the fantasy elements.Character-driven story with room for deeper themes.
