So, 'What Makes You Happy' is an interesting little piece from 2006 that dives into the absurdities of filmmaking. The Belgian director really puts himself out there, almost to the point of desperation, as he slaps posters around and tries to rally crowds to watch his film. It's darkly comedic, but not in the way you'd expect. There's a certain melancholy that settles in, especially when everything crashes down—he loses his job, and, well, his partner isn't sticking around either. The pacing feels almost frantic at times, which works well with the themes of ambition and failure. A unique debut from Joachim La Fosse that sort of catches that awkwardness of trying to make it in the industry. Not flashy, but definitely has its own charm.
