So, 'When We Went MAD!' dives into the wacky world of MAD Magazine, and it's pretty well done. Alan Bernstein pulls together a lot of voices—readers, artists, and writers—to offer a nostalgia trip that feels personal. The interviews are sincere, but there's this playful undercurrent that keeps it light, even when covering serious themes like censorship and societal shifts. The pacing flows like an old-school variety show, jumping from one segment to another, which mirrors MAD's own chaotic charm. The archival footage is a treat, and there's a raw authenticity to how they present the magazine's influence. It doesn’t shy away from the messy parts of its history, either, which I appreciated. Definitely a love letter to those who grew up with it.
