Wild Wild West is quite the oddity in the late '90s action-comedy landscape. Sonnenfeld really leans into the outrageous with a blend of steampunk aesthetics and Western tropes. The pacing can be all over the place, but you've got to hand it to the creativity of the practical effects. The giant mechanical spider, for instance, is just so over-the-top that it leaves a memorable impression. Smith and Kline have a fun chemistry, playing off each other's strengths as they navigate through ridiculous situations. It's this mix of adventure and humor, wrapped in a bizarre historical context, that gives it a unique flair, even if it doesn't always hit the mark. Really speaks to a certain era of filmmaking that loved to push boundaries.
