Wind Chill is an interesting piece, for sure. It meshes drama and horror in a really tight way, creating this pervasive sense of dread. The pacing feels deliberate, almost like it’s taking its time to let the cold seep into your bones, while the characters, two college students, feel relatable enough. The isolation of that deserted road adds to the atmosphere, making it claustrophobic in an expansive way. The ghosts are distinct too, not just jump scares, but reflections of loss. Practical effects are used sparingly, which is nice. The performances by the leads feel authentic, and they hold the film together. There’s a subtle commentary on mortality woven in, which gives it a weight that lingers.
