Wing Commander is a curious blend of action and sci-fi, set in this dark, war-torn universe of the 27th century. The movie features some decent practical effects, particularly in the space dogfights, though they can feel dated at times. Christopher Roberts, who directed, was clearly aiming for that epic space opera vibe, and you can sense a lot of ambition here, even if the execution doesn't always hit the mark. The performances by the young cast are a mixed bag, but there’s a certain charm in their earnestness. Overall, it feels like a love letter to the video game franchise, with a bit of that late '90s flair, making it distinctive in its own right.
Great for fans of the video game series.Interesting take on space combat tropes.Captures the spirit of late '90s sci-fi cinema.
